General Wellness
Just like people, our pet’s needs change over time, and the caring veterinarians at Garden District Animal Hospital in Baton Rouge are here to care for your pet’s overall wellness. For example, the needs of puppies and kittens who are growing will differ dramatically from an older pet in the twilight years. At Garden District Animal Hospital, our caring veterinarians will formulate a plan specific to the age and health needs of your pet, regardless of their current age or condition.
When puppies and kittens first come to Garden District Animal Hospital, our compassionate veterinarians perform a routine physical examination, including a fecal sample to check for intestinal parasites. A vaccine protocol will also be scheduled, based on your pet’s lifestyle. Heartworm and flea and tick preventatives are necessary for all dogs AND cats, and our experienced doctors will determine which product is right for your pet. Finally, a spay or neuter will be highly recommended at this time. It is essential for all pets to be spayed or neutered and not just to prevent unwanted litters, as certain cancers are far less likely for a pet that has had this procedure.
As your pet ages, senior profiles, including blood work, become extremely important for your pet's health. Once your dog or cat reaches the age of seven (7) years, they are considered a senior animal, and it is recommended we see them twice yearly. Physical exams become even more critical at this time, and blood work to check the blood chemistry levels and complete blood counts are needed just like human medicine.
The experienced veterinarians at Garden District Animal Hospital have been there for the lives of so many pets in the Baton Rouge and Port Allen areas, and they will bring that same kindness and skill to your pet. No matter the age of your pet, call to set their appointment with one of our caring doctors today.
